Finding Employment

Finding employment is one of the biggest FAITH stretchers of the summer.  In previous years, many students have found jobs after only a few days of searching.  For others, the process takes longer.  It is hard, but God is faithful!  You will have two weeks to go out and job hunt before the June 15th deadline!

How To Prepare

To ensure success, there are a few things you can do to prepare for the summer.

1. Bring your résumé.

Each application will ask for work history, addresses, phone numbers, supervisors’ names, etc.  Having this information ready will get you ahead of the game.  Bring copies of your resume!  (See the fundraising packet for résumé examples.)

2. Begin looking for jobs on websites now.

Most employers have downloadable applications online.  You can also check out the local Chamber of Commerce to see what businesses are in the area.

3. As you begin this search, think of family and friends who may be able help.

If you work for a business where you live right now, it might be possible for you to transfer to a branch of the same business for the summer.

4. Most importantly, keep this matter in your prayers and trust God to provide.

Employment Guidelines

As you begin to search for a job, remember the following:

  • You must be off work in time for night activities.
  • Absolutely no work on Sunday.
  • Your goal is to sustain a minimum of 20 hours a week at a local job.

NOTE:

Working this summer will provide some money and you can keep everything you make. However, realistically for most of you the amount you make and take home will be modest. Therefore, please be prudent in planning your summer and fall finances. For instance, if you need to earn several thousands of dollars to pay for school or you will not be able to return to school, you might need to consider doing something besides Project Impact.   We know and have seen God provide, so if training is what you want it will be worth the price.
